Huawei completely copies the iPhone with its Pura 80

The Huawei Pura 80 has just been unveiled in China with a design that smells good the iPhone. Flat screen, straight frames, same golden copper color … Inspiration is no longer hidden.

After the Pura 80 Ultra, Huawei has just formalized the Pura 80 in China, and as much to say it right away: it is copy-paste iPhone without complex.

No more curved screens and rounded frames that made the brand’s visual identity, place on the flat screen and the angular frame that smells good Cupertino. This radical aesthetic turnaround says a lot about Huawei’s current strategy which gradually replaces the iPhone in the Chinese pocket.

The change is striking when you know Huawei’s design DNA. For years, the Chinese brand has cultivated its screens with rounded edges and its curves. Only the Pura 70 Ultra and the foldable mate X6 had dared a few angles, but this is the big jump. The Pura 80 adopts a perfectly flat screen with straight edges that immediately recall the iPhone 12 and its successors.

This assumed inspiration goes so far as to the details. The 6.6 -inch OLED screen displays a definition of 2760 x 1256 pixels with a variable refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz – classic but solid. Huawei announces a peak brightness at 2800 cd/m², sufficient to stay readable in full sun. On the autonomy side, the 5600 mAh battery is recharged at 66W in a wired and 50W in wireless, for once, it is good that Apple offers.

Kirin 9010s to save money

Huawei also ignores its high -end processor for this model. Instead of the Kirin 9020 which equips premium models, Pura 80 is satisfied with the Kirin 9010s. It is an improved version of the Kirin 9010 that we found in the Pura 70 Ultra, with performance announced up 33 %. Concretely, it gives eight CPU cores with a 1+3+4 configuration closed to 2.50 GHz, 2.05 GHz and 1.50 GHz.

Huawei keeps the most recent fleas for ultra premium models, and offer “sufficient” on the classic versions.

The camera follows the same logic of savings. Triple sensor with 50, 12 and 13 megapixels, plus a spectral sensor as on Mate X6.

It is correct on paper, but far from 50+50+40+12.5 megapixels of Pura 80 Ultra. Huawei clearly segments its ranges to push customers to more expensive models.

Golden copper like the iPhone 17 Pro (rumor)

On the color side, Huawei is not lacking in air: it offers golden copper, exactly the shade that Apple would prepare for the iPhone 17 Pro according to rumors. Coincidence? We doubt it. The black, white and green colors complete the palette, in the purest premium smartphone tradition.

The format remains reasonable with 157.7 x 74.4 x 8.2 mm for 211 grams, IP68 certified for water and dust resistance. Huawei delivers everything under Harmonyos 5.1 in China, his house system which replaces Android (with Google) from the American sanctions.

Aggressive prices to catch up

The PURA 80 starts at € 560 (in gross conversion) for 256 GB of storage and 12 GB of RAM, or € 90 less than its predecessor LE PURA 70. Versions 512 GB (€ 620) and 1 TB (€ 740) remain in reasonable prices in China.

The PURA 80 will be available in China from July 30, but nothing is confirmed for Europe where Huawei is struggling to find its superb on the smartphones market before sanctions.
