A page would be turning to Intel. Several pages in reality, even if they are directly linked. As you probably know, Intel mainly uses two types of CPU cores in its processors from its 12th generation alias Alder Lake: The Performance-cores and Efficient-cores. What you do not necessarily know, unless you really follow the hardware very closely is that the P-Cores and the e-cores are not designed by the same teams. They are even designed at two opposite points from the globe.
Since the mid -1970s, the design team located in Haifain Israel is inseparable from the design of Intel processors. Taking an increasingly important place in the creations of Intel CPU designs, it is even used to say that from the early 2000s and the arrival of “Intel Core” architecture, it is the Haifa team which is the true mother of CPU hearts of Intel. The thing is therefore no longer as true since the arrival of Alder Lake (Intel Core of 12th generation, therefore), when Intel has decided to offer within its processors two types of hearts: P-cores and e-cores. In Haifa the burden of developing P-Cores, Austinin the United States, that of developing e-cores. A situation that would be changing, to the detriment of the center of Haifa if we believe several rumors and information from recent months …
We have heard rumors for a long time around what is currently called theUnified Core At Intel. Moore’s Law Is Dead was talking about it in a video of October 2024 for example. The idea is simple and taken up by several “insiders”: Intel would have in the idea of returning to a single design of CPU hearts for its future processors. According to the latest rumors to date, Intel’s objective is for 2028 with architecture Titan Lake. Future Intel architectures could follow this hypothetical roadmap:
Years | CPU | P-cores | E-Cores |
---|---|---|---|
2024 | Arrow Lake | Lion Cove | SkyMont |
2025 | Panther Lake | Cougar Cove | Darkmont |
2026 | Nova Lake | Coyote Cove | Arctic Wolf |
2027 | Razer Lake | Griffin Cove | Golden Eagle |
2028 | Titan Lake | Unified Core |
The question that can be held legitimately is to know what Intel plans to make its two teams far from more than 15,000 km, if only one architecture must be designed. Several signs seem to match the fact that it would be the center of Haifa which could well be sacrificed by Intel, to concentrate all its CPU activity in Austin, Texas and assign other tasks in the future to its team located in Israel. First of all, many major executives from the center of Haifa, some present for over 25 years have for less than two years left their post and have now been working in new society. An example? Our Nicolas had in 2022 interviewed two of the thinking heads at the origin of Raptor Lake’s P-Cores at Intel: Adi Yoaz and Moshiko Emmer. Both worked at the Israel Development Center (IDC) And, you will probably have guessed it in advance: these two people no longer work for Intel now, Adi Yoaz being now at Huawei while Moshiko Emmer is him at Cadence …
As you know, Intel also dismissals in Tours de Bras at the moment, and according to some corridor noises the IDC would be quite strongly affected by these job losses. Let us add to that intel expansion work in Israel which seems to be badly unfolding, and we have a painting that is not idyllic that is emerging and which suggests that the idea of Intel, by the horizon 2028, would be that the Unified Core is entirely thought of in the USA. A decision which, if it were to be confirmed, would probably not fail to please the current president of the United States! (Source: Siliconfly)
