He is in absolute emergency. Gilles Dussault, 63, mayor of Villeneuve-de-Marc, a village in Isère with less than 1,200 inhabitants, was hospitalized on Wednesday August 6, after being attacked in his commune by a person armed with a bruising object.
The councilor was struck shortly before 5 p.m. with a bruising weapon by an unidentified person, while he was traveling on foot in a local street with his 28 -year -old son, firefighters told AFP. Gilles Dussault was hospitalized in absolute emergency at the Édouard Herriot Hospital in Lyon while his son was transported to Vienna hospital in relative emergency, according to the same source.

In a press release, the prefecture confirmed the “Violent” assault. “The author of the assault is actively sought by the police. Catherine Séguin, prefect of Isère, condemns with the greatest firmness this serious and unacceptable act with regard to elected officials who work for the general interest ”added the press release without more details on the circumstances.
On X, the Minister of Type Management, the socialist François Rebsamen, said he was “Very shocked and moved by the violent assault by the mayor of Villeneuve-de-Marc and his son”. “An elected representative of the Republic and his family attacked: it is intolerable. The aggressor must be found and sanctioned with the greatest firmness ”he added.
