In Morocco, an end -of -reign atmosphere for Mohammed VI

These are two mirror images and, behind them, two stories that meet to compose the Royal chiaroscuro where Morocco is reflected at the moment. The first scene takes place on June 7, during the prayer of Eid El-Adha (“Festival of the sacrifice”) at the Tétouan mosque, in the north of the Cherifian kingdom. Pastel yellow djellaba and garnet Tarbouche, King Mohammed VI is seated on a leather -sheathed stool. His face betrays fatigue, while everyone around him praises Allah, prostrating himself. This image of the 62 -year -old sovereign, singularized in his fragile immobility within an assembly in genuflection, an effort that he can no longer fulfill, aggravates the already significant concern about his state of health.

More than two weeks later, radical inversion of the narrative. Social networks broadcast a video where we see this same Mohammed VI in a swimsuit, straddling a jet ski, off Cabo Negro, a seaside resort close to Tétouan, surrounded by a swarm of esquivals of bodyguards. The king lifts a shy hand towards the compatriots who acclaim him from the coast. His attitude remains borrowed, but a sovereign capable of piloting the same device alone cannot be suffering. Suddenly, the disturbance born from the previous scene dissipates.

This dual choreography cannot better summarize the transition process through Morocco. The king is physically reduced, other shots confirm it – especially when he welcomes Emmanuel Macron to Rabat, at the end of October 2024, weight, a cane in hand -, but this weakening would have anything dramatic at this stage, nothing that can start his serenity to the rudder of the kingdom.
