In Switzerland, more and more seniors end their lives
The share of seniors using assisted suicide experiences an unprecedented increase.

In twenty-five years, four times more seniors have ended their lives in Switzerland.

The subject is both sensitive and taboo: the end of life of seniors. By taking up the figures of The Federal Statistics Office, the RTS reveals that more and more elders have used assisted suicide in recent years.
In 2023, 80% of suicides in 65-84 year olds were assisted and this rate increased to 90% among those over 85.
Thus, in twenty-five years, the number of suicides among those over 85 has multiplied by four. Among the 65-84 year olds, he doubled over the same period. Please note, the figures put forward here by the RTS account for assisted and unaccomposed suicides. However, the media also recalls that associating these two rates does not consensus on the side of medical and associative circles.
