The municipal team of the city of Drômoise received only 15 reports last year, against nearly 550 in 2021. In four years, the authorities seized 275 vehicles and destroyed 150 others.
A dizzying fall. While the scenes of urban rodeos multiply on social networks, and provoke dramas with passers -by, the municipality of Valence (Drôme) has decided to take the fight against these incivility seriously. So that since 2021, the number of reports has experienced a 95% drop in four years.
“In 2021, 550 reports were had to the municipal police for this type of behavior, explains Pierre-Olivier Mahaux, deputy mayor of Valence delegate for public security, to our colleagues from CNEWS. Last year, we fell to 15, and in 2025, to date, we are 7 ”. In this time, the police have seized 275 vehicles, while 150 others were destroyed.
To fight against this offense, the municipality has muscled its device in recent years. A motorcycle brigade has been created, and 280 protective cameras allow authorities to better identify the authors of these crimes. Finally, the municipality has also set up “The invoicing of the costs of refurbishment against the pilots or their parents if they were minors ”according to Pierre-Olivier Mahaux, at the microphone of our colleagues, as well as “The immediate impoundment of the devices on which the authors engaged in this kind of deviant behavior ”.
