No, thunderstorms did not go on a construction vacation. After a short leave, they will soon be back. Forecast.
Thunderstorms are linked
It is not just an impression: the thunderstorm days have chained one following the other during the month of July. In fact, during the first 20 days of July in Quebec, at least one thunderstorm was observed during 19 of them. This means that so far, only one day, on July 8, has been without a thunderstorm in the province since the beginning of the month.
Short respite
The cooler temperatures than the seasonal normal at the start of the week will offer a short respite to this succession. Thunderstorms are counting on heat and humidity to accumulate energy. The start of the week will be fresh and dry in southern Quebec. Thunderstorms will therefore not have much to put themselves under the tooth on Monday and Tuesday.
Sun
In addition, an anticyclone will settle on the beautiful province. True to its habits, this anticyclone brings calm time and a lot of sun in its suitcases. It is between 9 and 12 hours of sunshine that Quebec will be able to observe Tuesday, over a maximum of about 15 hours. Gatineau will be the most spoiled sector with 12 hours, while Val-d’Or will have to be satisfied with “only” 9 hours of sunshine.
Return of thunderstorms
However, the situation will change from Wednesday. A system will make its entry through the west of the province. At the same time, heat and humidity will go back from the Gulf of Mexico to the south of Quebec. Heat, humidity, depressional system, this is an equation that almost always gives as a result of a risk of thunderstorms. It is Thursday that we will have this risk in the south of the province. Saguenay, North Shore, Bas-Saint-Laurent should be spared by thunderstorms on Thursday.
