Iran: national funeral for high officers killed by Israel

The national funeral of sixty high officers and nuclear scientists killed by Israel during the war started on Saturday on the fifth day of a ceasefire. He is more weakened by new threats from Donald Trump.

(Keystone-ATS) “The tribute ceremony to the martyrs has officially started,” said a state television presenter at 8:00 am (6:30 a.m. in Switzerland), while images showed a crowd gathered in the center of Tehran around the funeral processions of the “martyrs of the war imposed by the Zionist regime”.

The coffins are covered with Iranian flags and carry portraits of the commanders killed in uniform. The procession started from Place Enghelab (Revolution) must go to Place Azadi (Liberté), 11 kilometers away, against a background of Iranian pop music accompanying the funeral praise.

Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian is participating in the ceremonies, according to images of state television, which also showed General Esmaïl Qaani, head of the Quds force, the branch of external operations of the revolution guards, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic.

Ali Shamkhani, injured during the war and one of the supreme guide advisers, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was seen with a cane. In the street, thousands of Iranians brandish flags from the Islamic Republic, the fist raised, and celebrate mythical heroes of ancient Persia.

“Boom Boom Tel Aviv,” said a banner, in reference to Iranian missiles drawn on Israel during the conflict in retaliation for its attacks against Iran.

“Historical”

Israel sparked a war on the goal of preventing Iran from June 13 from the atomic bomb on June 13, an ambition that the country denies. On Saturday “will be a historic day for Islamic Iran and the history of the revolution,” said Mohsen Mahmoudi, a religious official for the province of Tehran on Friday, on Friday. Administrations and many businesses are closed on Saturday for the occasion.

Iran pays tribute to sixty high -ranking soldiers and the revolution guards, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic, as well as scientists linked to the nuclear program killed by Israeli bombings. Mohammad Bagheri, powerful general of the Iranian armed forces and killed on the first day of the war, will be buried with his wife and daughter, according to Mohsen Mahmoudi.

Mr. Bagheri was the highest ranking of Iranian forces, responsible for the army, the body of the revolution guards and the country’s ballistic program. He worked directly under the authority of the supreme guide, the final decision -maker and commander -in -chief of the armed forces.

Ali Khamenei, in power since 1989, has in the past chaired national funeral, especially last year after death in a helicopter accident by President Ebrahim Raïssi. However, its presence on Saturday was not confirmed.

“A beating”

According to the Iranian Ministry of Health, at least 627 people were killed and nearly 4,900 injured among the civilian population during the 12 days of war. Iranian reprisals to Israel left 28 people dead, according to Israeli authorities.

The United States bombed three nuclear sites in Iran on the night of June 21 to 22, joining the offensive of Israel. On Friday, the American president said that the United States would lead to “undoubtedly” new strikes in Iran if the country enriched uranium at levels allowing him to obtain nuclear weapons.

He also accused Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, of lacking recognition, saying that he had avoided him “awful and ignominious death”. “I knew exactly where he sheltered, and I did not want to leave Israel or the American armed forces, by far the most powerful and the largest in the world, put an end to his life,” insisted Donald Trump in an extraordinarily virulent message on his social social network, boasting of having inflicted “a beating” on Iran.

Iran, for its part, has always denied wanting to acquire an atomic bomb and claims the right to lead a civil nuclear program. Tehran also denied that he was going to resume negotiations with the United States on his nuclear program, as Donald Trump supported this week. “If President Trump really wishes to conclude an agreement, he should put aside his disrespectful and unacceptable tone with regard to the Iranian Supreme Guide,” Iranian diplomacy chief Abbas Araghchi wrote.
