Like every year, it is as September that the entry -level tablets market finds its usual dynamism. Indeed, manufacturers often take advantage of the summer period in order to position themselves on a key moment in tech purchase, the start of the school year.
Honor’s since the start of the summer, Honor has formalized his pad 10, Oppo a Pad S3, while Xiaomi unveiled his Redmi Pad 2. Located around 300 euros, and sometimes even less according to configurations, these products aims to seduce a very specific audience.
First of all, students looking for a companion that is easy to transport for notes. Then, professionals often on the move and seeking a supplement to their laptop. And finally, families wishing to share a new screen.
Said thus, and given its price, the Redmi Pad 2 obviously does not try to come and rub shoulders with its more upset sisters, like the PAD 7 Pro or the iPad Air 11 ″ M3. However, it must have solid arguments to succeed in convincing these targeted audiences.
Price and availability
The Redmi Pad 2 has been available in France since early June 2025, in two colors, gray and light green. For storage and memory, you have the choice between two versions: The first with 4 GB of RAM with 128 GB of space at 201 €. And the second with 8 GB of RAM with 256 GB of storage at 301 €. To complete the experience, Xiaomi also offers a rotary case around € 70.

A serious design and an elegant look
From the first handling, the Redmi Pad 2 surprises with the quality of its manufacture. For an entry -level tablet, the monohull chassis reassures, while the rounded edges give it a resolutely modern look. Admittedly, Xiaomi does not reinvent the wheel in terms of design, but the finishes are neat. This inspires confidence for daily use, and especially if you have to put it in the hands of the youngest.
At the rear, and unlike the PAD 7 Pro, the photo block is in the form of a discreet square module. The latter barely exceeds. Therefore, the Redmi Pad 2 to remain perfectly stable when placed on a table. For its part, the back sports a slightly textured mat finish, pleasant to the touch and which limits fingerprints.
In hand, the tablet is most manifest thanks to a well thought out size and weight ratio, 254.6 x 166 x 7.4 mm for 510 grams. For comparison, it is more compact and lighter than its two competitors: the Oppo Pad 3 (257.8 × 189.1 × 6.3 mm, 533 g) and the Honor Pad 10 (277.1 × 179.3 × 6.3 mm, 525 g). Result, in portrait or landscape mode, the grip remains pleasant and no fatigue of the wrists is felt, even after more than 30 minutes of use.
In terms of connectors, Xiaomi is generous. In addition to a classic USB-C 2.0 port for its load, the Redmi Pad 2 has a 3.5 mm jack and a microSD slot capable of accommodating up to 2 to. Two pleasant little luxuries that the models of Oppo and Honor are not allowed on their products.
A fluid screen, but a colorimetry to adjust yourself
The Redmi Pad 2 has an 11 -inch IPS LCD panel in 16:10 format. Its great novelty compared to the Redmi Pad released in 2022 lies in its definition. The latter goes from 2000 x 1200 pixels to 2560 x 1600 pixels. This clear progression results in a finer image, which is appreciable for video streaming. Unchanged, the refresh rate is always adjustable over 60 or 90 Hz.
Too bad that Xiaomi did not take the 120 Hz stage here. This would have brought more fluidity to scroll on Tiktok or Instagram. Another small disappointment, the borders are still as thick. Between 7 and 8 mm, which gives an occupancy rate of the front front just 81%. And this time, it is the competition that does better. About 84% for the PAD S3 of OPPO and 85% for the PAD 10 of Honor.
At the factory outlet, calibration also shows some limits. And this, even with the “standard” mode, which in our opinion is the most balanced of all. The colors sometimes appear too saturated and the rendering is a little cold, with a dominant blue visible. Nothing very bad. However, for a more natural restitution, we advise you to switch to a warmer tone on the chromatic wheel.
Sufficient performance to have fun, except in 3D video games
Under its chassis, the new Xiaomi entry -level tablet has a Mediatek Helio G100 Ultra SOC. Engraved in 6 Nm, this chip is accompanied by 4 GB or 8 GB of RAM and 128 to 256 GB of storage according to its versions. Even if it requires adding an extra ticket, we advise you to opt for the most powerful version in order to ensure good overall fluidity.
It is this more muscular version that we had in hand during this test and the experience turned out to be pleasant. Whether for web navigation, to respond to a few emails, take notes or relax on Youtube, the Redmi Pad 2 performs all its tasks without notable slowdowns.
For the game, the tablet can without difficulty running popular licenses like Clash Royale or Alto’s Adventure. However, its Mali-G57 MP2 GPU is logically too modest to venture on the most powerful games of the Play Store. Admittedly, peoplehin Impact or Call of Duty Mobile work, but at the cost of framerate decreases, textures that drool and sometimes even small crashes. Nothing abnormal given the price positioning, but it is better to be warned.
Record software follow -up for entry -level
For its software part, the Redmi Pad 2 operates under Android 15 and Hyperos 2.0. This overlay offers fluid and intuitive navigation, as well as a refined notification center. The interface is pleasant and the tablet offers the possibility of opening several floating windows or using the shared screen.
In addition, if you have an Xiaomi smartphone, know that the interconnection is quite advanced. In particular to synchronize notifications, files or even to tip over video reading content. On the other hand, the Redmi Pad 2 is not adorned with any AI functionality.
Finally, one wonders which fly has bitten Xiaomi. The manufacturer is generous in its update policy. Count five years for Android and seven years of security correction. While for its high -end model, the PAD 7 Pro, the manufacturer had only opted for two years of Android updates. Incomprehensible.
The photo is not its strong point
Admittedly, photo is not one of the essential criteria when buying a tablet. However, some people may aim to use their slates occasionally as interior camera or for visio calls.
And if that is the case, know that the Redmi Pad 2 has only a limited partition. Or a single 8 megapixel high-angle sensor (f/2.0) at the rear and a 5 megapixel front camera (f/2.2). Especially since the video does not exceed 1080p at 30 images, while there is no flash or optical stabilization.
Fortunately, the little she offers, the Redmi Pad 2 does it correctly. During the day, the clichés are exploitable with faithful colors. Note however that the overexpositions are frequent and that the level of detail is not incredible on the edges.
On video call, the results are correct in full light. Alas, as soon as the brightness drops a little, digital noise is invited to the party. For school use, some professional visio or family calls, it helps occasionally, but no more.
Good autonomy, but a burden far too slow
Despite its 7.4 mm finesse, the Redmi Pad 2 incorporates a generous 9,000 mAh battery. By using it two hours a day (web navigation, social networks, video streaming and a little 2D games), the tablet is from Monday to Friday. An appreciable endurance that places it at the top of the entry -level tablets.
However, recharging is one of its big weak points to note. Although the tablet is compatible with a maximum power of 18 W, the charger supplied caps at 15 W. It took us in a matter of more than three and a half hours to get it from 0 to 95%. A slowness that requires organizing upstream and especially not to forget to charge it during the night.
Our opinion on the Xiaomi Redmi Pad tablet
The Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 seduces with its excellent autonomy, its sufficient performance and rare connectors at this level (3.5 mm jack and microSD). To take full advantage of its screen, it is better to readjust the colorimetry for a more natural rendering. Once this detail has been adjusted, it will then become an ideal companion to sail on social networks, watch series or have fun on not too gourmet games. Too bad the photo part is so limited and the load is frustrating. Despite this, given its price, it remains an excellent value for money to prepare for the start of the school year without exploding its budget.
