Amnesty International recalls that an opinion of the International Court of Justice (CIJ) affirms that the States, including Belgium, are responsible for ensuring that they do not contribute to the maintenance of the illegal situation generated by Israel.
“It would be unacceptable for the meeting of the External Relations Committee to lead to vain platitudes and convictions, which would lead our country to bother in voluntary inertia in the face of the current genocide in Gaza,” added Carine Thibaut.
The NGO thus awaits concrete measures, such as an appeal to the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, as well as the ban on commercial relations and investment with the illegal Israeli colonies located in the occupied Palestinian territory.
The members of the External Relations Committee will mention in particular the question of the recognition of a Palestinian State. The committee’s meeting will take place a week after the Israeli security firm to approve the Prime Minister’s project, Benjamin Netanyahu, to “take control” from the city of Gaza.
