US President Donald Trump is preparing an agreement that provides for the release of all Israeli hostages and could end the war in Gaza, several sources close to negotiations said to i24NEWS. “We are optimistic about the conclusion of an agreement,” said an American source.
On Sunday evening, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a meeting with a limited number of ministers and senior security officials in the South Command in order to discuss the continuation of the fighting in Gaza. One of the main questions raised at this meeting was the opportunity to send an Israeli delegation to negotiations that should be held in Egypt or Qatar.
A source close to negotiations has told i24News that around 75 % of the issues had already been resolved in recent weeks. “25 % of the issues remain unanswered, in particular key issues such as the humanitarian situation, the end of the war itself and the guarantees required by Israel to prevent Hamas from rearming,” said the source.
During a visit to the headquarters of Shin Bet on Sunday, Netanyahu said: “We will also have to resolve the question of Gaza, defeat Hamas, and I believe that we will accomplish these two tasks. Beyond that, many options open in the region, and in some of them, almost all of them are our partners.”
As before reported by i24NEWSOne of the options that returned to the negotiating table is the expulsion of senior Hamas officials. While Hamas had previously refused to discuss this possibility, it has now been reintroduced in negotiations.
