James Cameron plans to expand his saga Avatarand the approach envisaged is both logical and intriguing.
If there is a disappointment that surrounds the mind -blowing world ofAvatarIt is its fairly shy expansion on the transmedia level. Even if James Cameron called for many years of artists, scientists and other linguists to make the smallest detail coherent, we had to be satisfied with two not terrible video games and a few comics.
Admittedly, the films require a very special care in technological research and development, not to mention the fact that Cameron and his writers wrote the narrative frames to the fifth episode before embarking on the realization of The waterway et Fire and ash. For several months, the magazine Empire is entitled to exclusivity on the promotion ofAvatar 3by regularly outing new images (notably “bad guys” na’vis with the ash clan) and interview extracts. During a visit to the filmmaker’s HQ, refining the latest details of the feature film, Cameron spoke about his desire to tell other stories in the world ofAvatar in animation.
“I said [à Disney, ndlr] : ‘Listen, I want to make an anthological series in animation which would take place mainly in the world, but it would be stories that we do not expect from this world’. There could even be an animated film in there-it could be a film for streaming, or a cinema release. »»
Of course, the success of series as Love, Death & Robots or Secret Level had to inspire Cameron, especially since the two examples in question were overseen by Tim Miller, the director of Deadpool but also creator accomplished by visual effects and 3D animation, to which Cameron has entrusted the staging of the horrible Terminator : Dark Fate. However, it is another animated anthology that the filmmaker cited as inspiration:
