An essential figure of the Limouloise cultural scene, Jean-François Girard died on the night of Wednesday to Thursday following a long battle against cancer. The late director general of Limoilou in bulk was at the origin of many events that have been animating his neighborhood for twenty years.
The announcement of the death of Jean-François Girard was made by his wife Elsa Daigle through a publication on Facebook.
At 2:45 a.m. on August 7, 2025, a great man left us. A monument, this dear J.-F. Girard. My man, my husband, my best friend, my confidant and much more. Left far too early. He will have fought forcefully. Cancer defeated him
she wrote.
We owe to Jean-François Girard and the organization he co-founded with Manon Landry, Limoilou in bulk, a good dozen cultural events including the great bazaar of Old Limoilou, Limoilou en Musique and the International of Pétanque. A legacy that is not ready to disappear.
It is one of the key characters in the revival of the Limoilou district in the early 2000s. Indeed, it was the founder of Limoilou in bulk, which has been there for several years with many very well -known events for people in the neighborhood. All this comes from the vision that Jean-François brought for the neighborhood
said Jean-Thomas Grantham, administrator of Limoilou in bulk.

The imprint that Jean-François Girard left in the neighborhood is such that tributes were raining on social networks on Thursday.
Jean-François represented a real lighthouse which lit the district of its initiatives for many years and whose benefits will remain present for a long time
writes in particular SDC Limoilou in a Facebook publication.
There are few people who can be said with as much accuracy that, if they had not existed, a community or a neighborhood would have been fundamentally changed. His premature departure therefore creates an immense void for our whole community
for his part commented Claude Villeneuve, head of the official opposition to the city council of Quebec City.
A big heart giant
Qualified as Giant with a big heart
Jean-François Girard has shown tirelessly determination for the progress of his neighborhood and his community.
He’s someone [pour qui] Limoilou, but also culture, was so important. It is really he who, from the start, when several actors in the neighborhood went together to say “we have to rebuild Limoilou, we must rebuild our neighborhood”, had the idea of having an organization like Limoilou in bulk to make social development, economic development, cultural influence. This is what led to what we know today
recalls Jean-Thomas Grantham.
I think that, without Jean-François Girard, his vision, his commitment, his determination, the Limoilou district would not be what he is today. That’s clear to me.
His commitment will have been whole until the very end, while he was preparing the continuation within Limoilou in bulk. In particular, he will have accompanied Jonathan Parent, who has taken his next generation for a few months as an interim managing director.
His many collaborators and friends now wish to pay him a tribute to the height of the man he was. This is what they will do on the occasion of an event imagined by Jean-François Girard himself, a show that will be held on the 3rd avenue, in Limoilou, on August 24, at 5 p.m.
