July the head in the stars: a successful celestial stroll for the planetarium of Nîmes

Throughout the month of July, the public sessions of the Planetarium of Nîmes embarked on the spectators for a poetic and scientific stroll under the summer sky.

If summer had a perfume, it would be that of starred nights. And for the curious of the cosmos, the planetarium of Nîmes offered throughout the month of July an immersive walk in the summer sky, between mythical constellations, distant nebulous and interstellar dreams. Each session, led with passion by the animators Philippe Tosi and Johann Dallan, offers a two-step experience: a captivating film of 30 minutes, rich in fixed and animated images, then a guided immersion in the summer sky as it appears, without light pollution, above our heads.

A trip to the summer sky

Comfortably installed in the armchairs of the 65 -seat room (half -filled this Sunday, July 27, vacation oblige), visitors were able to abandon themselves to contemplation of more than 2,000 stars projected on the ceiling. All thanks to a planetary faithful to the position for 43 years, which continues to make young and old dream.

Vega, Deneb, Altaïr… These names almost evoke deities. And for good reason: these three stars form the famous summer triangle, an emblematic figure that the animators took care to point, to explain, and to replace in a vast celestial decor. A real science lesson… without boredom. “This is an opportunity to introduce our daughter to astronomy, and then for us to discover lots of things too”enthuses a couple of Aveyronnais who came to spend their holidays in the Gard.

Stars in the eyes … and eclipses on the horizon

Beyond the sky in July, the sessions made it possible to open a window on the future: the total eclipse of August 12, 2026 in Spain or that of August 2, 2027 in Gibraltar promise breathtaking shows. Small advice slipped at the end of the session: the best combo to observe the sky? A long chair and a pair of binoculars. Simple, but formably effective.

Now, from this Saturday, August 2, change of decor and theme. Direction the deep space with Hubble, the eye of the universe. The legendary space telescope will be revealed through breathtaking images and some crisp anecdotes.

Saturday and Sunday at 3 pm, in August: session “Hubble, the eye of the universe”. Full price: € 5; Reduced: 3 €. Planetarium, avenue Peladan, Nîmes. 04 66 76 72 60
