Katsuhiro Harada de Tekken believes that building a suite at Tekken Tag Tournament is “something that the next generation can decide”

During an interview with EVO 2025, Katsuhiro Harada, the producer and executive director of Projet Tekkendiscussed the prospects for launching Tekken Tag Tournament 3. In the interview, he expressed some skepticism as to the exit from Tekken day As an autonomous title, given the current competitive nature of the combat games market with upcoming games such as Marvel Tokon : Fighting Souls, 2XKO et Invincible VS.

In an interview with Destructoidharada, accompanied by the Chief Producer and Director of the Game Tekken 8Kohei Ikeda, and producer Michael Murray, who served as a translator, frankly mentioned the obstacles to the development of another component of Tekken Tag Tournament.

Harada said that there are many tag-team fighters on the market, and given the long cycle of game development Tekkenit seems counterproductive to turn away from the updates and continuous corrections of contents of Tekken 8.

Harada said

“It’s quite difficult because, you know, the Tag is something I have always thought more recently, and I have the feeling that it should be a kind of fashion within Tekken 9 or 8 or whatever the name you give it “

When asked if the Tekken Project abandoned the idea of a title Tekken Day 3 Autonomous, Harada explained:

“If we are now starting to make a Tekken Tag Tournament 3, by what they are no longer popular, it is then that Tag Three will be released. We have so much more movements than a classic 2D fighter.

There is so much more work to do in a 3D game. This is probably far from being the case, and therefore probably not in my professional life. It is therefore the next generation to decide “

The rich history of franchise Tekken has also been enriched with derivative titles such as Tekken Tag Tournamentreleased in 1999 as a launch title for PlayStation 2.. The game introduced non -canonical team matches between the events of Tekken 3 EN 4.

Later, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 was released in 2011 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and later on Wii U. The game was greeted for its extended list of characters from the series Tekken and its revised mechanisms.

However, the game has managed to sell only 1.5 million copies during its lifespan, which did not allow Bandai Namco to reach the initial sales figures of 840,000 copies in Europe and Japan at the end of autumn 2012. On the contrary, the main franchise Tekken was a generalized commercial success, with 57 million units sold worldwide in 2024.
