La Poste is faced with huge challenges. The digitization and evolution of user habits question its traditional economic model.
The reflection group Swiss future wants to reform the post office in depth to make it viable financially and relevant to the social cohesion of the country. It must be modernized, avoid nostalgia at all costs and reform analog rather than go to digital.
The needs of the customers have evolved. She receives less mail and more packages. According to estimates, the Swiss will only receive 100 letters per year by 2030, two per week. On the other hand, The number of packages should increase. La Poste relies on a hybrid approach, combining physical communication – paper and display, and digital, while adapting constantly to demand.
Abroad, mail volumes also decrease. Danish post will stop distributing the mail at the end of the year. Electronic messaging will serve as an alternative. The law stipulates that all residents over the age of 15 and all companies must be reachable in this way. Indeed, administrations now only deal with their mail with citizens and businesses only by digital means. The DAO distributor, who won the market for the distribution of public services last year, said he was nevertheless ready to strengthen his letters distribution service. For its part, Norway plans that the factor only spends once a week.
Swiss future claims
Future Swiss proposes to lighten the universal service. In the future, it will no longer be necessary to distribute the mail every day. From 2030, the courrier B should become the standard. The post monopoly on the letters must stop.
According to the independent think tank, the package market is already very competitive. State guidelines will become superfluous from 2030, since Private providers Like DPD, Planzer and DHL already cover the whole territory.
The network of deficit subsidiaries must be reduced. As the main action, the Confederation must soften the accessibility directives and abandon the fixed quotas of branches in the cities.
The distribution of newspapers in Switzerland shows a deficit of 390 million francs over five years. Future Switzerland requests the abolition of the distribution obligation until 12:30 p.m. and wants the dissemination of printed newspapers to be withdrawn from the universal service from 2035, believing that digital offers will dominate by then.
