Lausanne police in crisis
Lausanne political parties react to scandal
From the left to the right, the groups of the city’s parliament are shocked and wonder.

Sarah Neumann, socialist party: “We are extremely shocked. These are not exchanges between three friends. It is a systemic problem, a culture. Now, you have to work on the functioning of the police, understand why it happened, why it is tolerated, why there is a form of omerta. It is necessary to unclog everything that is necessary so that it does not happen anymore and that this general climate of discrimination ceases. ”
More than ten years of denunciation of police drifts
Ilias Panchard, the Greens: “It’s intolerable, but unfortunately not surprising. We have denounced these drifts for over ten years. The problems were systematically put under the carpet. Fundamental question: Who was aware in the hierarchy? It takes a complete audit and reform the institution from top to bottom to safeguard the bond of trust with the population. ”
Johann Dupuis, together on the left: “We are outraged to see that the municipality seems to discover the problem. For more than ten years we have denounced structural racism. We propose to create an independent instance for complaints and prohibit ventral veneer. There have been six deaths in recent years, linked to the Lausanne police. It is happy that the municipality reacts, but what is expected are concrete measures to solve the problem. ”
Anouck Saugy, PLR: “We salute the responsiveness of our municipal for the sanctions taken and the prevention measures. The transparency of the municipality today is a very good thing. The PLR firmly condemns any remarks or act of discrimination. As serious behaviors should not question the work of the 600 women and men who engage daily for the safety of the inhabitants. ”
No WhatsApp for the police
Virginie Cavalli, Vertibaux “A WhatsApp group of police officers in the professional context should be prohibited for security reasons. Their training should be strengthened in the field. On the question of racism, they have a duty of exemplarity, because they represent the order. The municipality’s reaction is fair and proportionate in terms of human resources, as for any other municipal employee. ”
Valentin Christe, UDC: “The pieces presented by the municipality are dismay. Some are however quite old and one wonders if they reflect the current reality of the police. These words were not intended for the public. It is not an excuse, but it allows us to understand why some may have felt free to hold them. There should be no impunity, including the authors of violence this weekend. ”
