The president of the Italian Council of Ministers was received by the Pope this Wednesday morning at the Vatican. After this first official meeting, the head of the government spoke to the secretary of state with Cardinal Parolin and Mgr Gallagher. The exchanges focused, among other things, on “common commitment to peace in Ukraine and the Middle East” and “humanitarian assistance” in Gaza.

The first official meeting between the Holy Father and Georgia Meloni, president of the Italian Council of Ministers, took place in the morning of Wednesday, June 2, in the Vatican Apostolic Palace. It took place in camera in the library, then ending with the traditional exchange of gifts. The Pope was offered an engraving dating from the 1600s representing the Angelicum University, where the bishop of Rome himself obtained his diploma in canonical law. By handing over this gift, Georgia Meloni recalled the great religious culture of the Institute. The Holy Father gave him the same, by offering him a work on Saint Augustine. In conclusion, he mentioned the food security summit to be held at the end of July in Ethiopia.
Before this hearing granted to the government’s headache accompanied by a delegation of eleven people, Georgia Meloni had seen the pope, during the mass at the start of his pontificate, on May 18, then during the jubilee of the rulers on June 21.
