LibreOffice, the famous Open Source alternative to Microsoft Office Office Subsequently, has just switched to version 25.8. We have a series of improvements that strengthen its performance, compatibility and safety.
From the opening, users discover a new rethought welcome dialog box. It gives direct access to the interface selector and the appearance options. In Writer, the equivalent of Word, it is possible to copy the content of a field itself from a reading document alone, a practical option for collaborative work.
One of the flagship innovations is the management of exports in PDF 2.0 format. It is a great advance knowing that this feature is not yet available under Microsoft. This development is accompanied by the management of encryption AES-256 as well as better management of PDF signatures compatible with Adobe Reader.
Word processor and table
In terms of word processing, the rules of caesura and layout are reworked. The objective is to ensure better correspondence with the documents created in recent versions of Microsoft Office. Writer also offers an option to avoid insulated lines at the bottom of the page.
In Calc, the equivalent of Excel, many new functions appear as choosescols, chooserows, drop, expand, hstack, take, textafter, textbefore, textsplit, tocol, torow, vstack, wrapcols and wraprows.
Performances progress with an opening of XLSX files up to 30 % faster, improved graphical rendering and more efficient multilingual orthographic verification.
For Impress, the presentation module, compatibility with PPTX files crosses a CAP thanks to the support of integrated fonts and an optimized algorithm which only selects the fonts actually used.
Among other LibreOffice 25.8 impactful new features introduces a viewer mode to open any reading document alone, visible page margins by default in Draw, as well as a more precise management of DOCX, Japanese and Korean DOCX files. Finally, OLE objects (such as graphics) can now be proportionally resized.
32 -bit Windows, that’s the end
On the other hand, this version marks the end of the support for several old systems. Windows 7 and 8 are no longer compatible and this is the latest version supporting MacOS 10.15. Finally, 32 -bit Windows editions are also abandoned.
