ASU LUXEMBOURG“I risked my life, but for me, it was normal”
Helder Azevedo, a resident of Mondorf-les-Bains, saved the life of a driver in a road accident, while the vehicle was about to explode.
The scene is worthy of a Hollywood film. A driver who lost consciousness in her car on fire, following a road accident. While the vehicle may explode at any time, a driver who is there by chance decides to help.
This is what happened on April 30 around 6 p.m., on a road between Roeser and Bivange. “Seeing the flames, I parked my car and walked 100 to 200 meters,” says Helder Azevedo, a resident of Mondorf-les-Bains of 31 years. I approached the vehicle that had turned around following a barrel. He was burning at the engine. The driver was lying at the roof. I opened the doors of the car and tried to pull the woman’s hand, but everything was broken at the level of her joints. A gentleman who was by bike (Editor’s note: Sacha Waringo) helped me get her out of the car. I then carried the motorist and I hurried to go away. Thirty seconds later, the car exploded. ”
“If I had been the person who was in this car on fire, I would have liked someone to do the same for me”
Helder Azevedo, who is a driver-bookman at La Provençale, adds having then put the driver in the lateral security position. He specifies that she had a bloody face and that she regained consciousness after five minutes. She was then taken care of by help.
Once back at home, Helder, who is the father of five, told his wife his gesture. “” She said to me, “You know you risked your life ”,” he says. But for me, it’s normal to help people, it’s in my education. If I had been the person who was in this car on fire, I would have liked someone to do the same for me. ”
In shock after his heroic gesture, Helder did not ask for pychological help. He says he failed to sleep for two days. But he did not stop and continued the work. On June 18, he received a medal for act of courage and dedication to Grevenmacher, during a ceremony organized by the CGDIS. The opportunity for the hero to hear from the woman he saved, and in which he knows little little. “I know she lives in Roeser,” he said. I was told that she was still in the hospital and that she still had to undergo operations. Nevertheless, she manages to speak. ” The driver-bookman confides that he would like to meet her, once she is restored.
