MAP. In Maine-et-Loire, is your town threatened by the tiger mosquito?

The National Agency for Food, Environmental and Work Health Safety (ANSES) has launched a portal dedicated to the report of the Tigre mosquito, accessible to the following address https://signally-moustique.anses.fr/Signalement_albopictus/. Field surveys can then be carried out. This portal aims in priority to collect the reports from unpaid communes, in order to follow the progress of the colonization of the Tiger mosquito.

“It is not the lights that attract mosquitoes”

ANSES recommends several protective measures: Wearing loose and covering clothes, using mosquito nets impregnated with repellents for doors and windows, and apply antimoustic repellents to your skin. “Contrary to popular belief, it is not the lights that attract mosquitoes, but the carbon dioxide that we expire”, underlines the ANSES website.

It is the female that stings

The tiger mosquito, which measures the size of a year of a euro, is recognizable by its black body striking white. He lives mainly outside and is often near watering cans, water cups and rainwater recovery. This mosquito can transmit viruses such as dengue, chikungunya or zika. It is the female who stings and can lay several hundred eggs during each laying, renewing this operation several times during her life. His life expectancy is 21 days.

ARS advises “To empty the small water reserves at least once a week, to hermetically cover rainwater recuperators, cans and small pools, and to ensure good water flow at the terraces, quailbotis, gutters, cheneaux, gutters, bulls and exterior siphons”.

At the national level, the region of the Pays de la Loire is considered to be “weakly colonized”, because less than 40 % of the municipalities are affected.
