The vice-government of the province of Ecuador, Thomas Boyenge Ifaso, announced this Saturday, June 28, 2025, the resurgence of the cholera epidemic in Mbandaka. This declaration was made through an official press release signed by the provincial authority.
According to the document, 14 suspect cases have been recorded since June 24, including a confirmed death. Patients are currently supported in treatment centers installed at the Wangata General Reference Hospital and that of Air Kongo.
The authorities also point out that these patients, from Kinshasa by whale, require nutritional management in addition to medical treatment.
Faced with this situation, a provincial coordination committee of the fight against cholera has been set up by the vice-governor and the provincial division of health. The mission of this committee is to urgently manage suspicious and confirmed cases in the four affected health zones: Mbandaka, Wangata, Bolenge and Lukolela. The province of Ecuador has a total of 18 health zones.
Thomas Boyenge Ifaso urges the population to quickly report to health services any suspicious cholera, in order to allow immediate care in the nearest structures.
In addition, all whales and boats from Mbandaka are now systematically disinfected by the border hygiene services, in collaboration with the RDC Red Cross.
Residents are called upon to strictly respect hygiene rules, including regular hand washing with soap and purification of water before consumption.
These measures aim to stem the propagation of the epidemic, specifies the communication commission for the fight against cholera.
