Cases of measles go upwards in France. The latest public health bulletin France reports 658 cases listed between the beginning of the year and May 31, 2025. An increase in measles cases, which is also present in Europe and in the world, but which does not affect, not the overseas. Nevertheless, the vigilance remains in order.
The epidemiological situation observed by national health agencies since the beginning of the year raises fears of the worst, given the strong contagiousness of the disease. The 658 cases of measles identified constitute an increase of 35 % compared to last year. The most concerned age category is, unsurprisingly, that of infants and children aged 1 to 4, even if the average age found is 18 years.
A third of the 658 cases declared were subject to an emergency room or hospitalization, including 10 admitted to resuscitation. Two deaths were recorded in immunocompromised patients.
On the origins of the infection, 9 out of 10 cases were imported from European countries and the Maghreb, the others being indigenous cases. 63 French departments are affected, and on declared cases, a little less than one in two is not vaccinated.
The good news is that no overseas country is not affected for the moment, but in this period of global resurgence of measles, it is essential to strengthen controls, in particular at borders, to limit the risk of the appearance of this infection under our latitudes.
