Luxembourg studentsFuture doctors will be greeted by other universities
After their 1st year or their Bachelor in Medicine at the University of Luxembourg, students will have to turn to other universities than the Sorbonne.
A few weeks ago, we learned that the Sorbonne will not accept medical students from the University of Luxembourg at the next school year.
The agreement with France for the reception of students after the 1st and 3rd year of medicine in Luxembourg “remains intact”, would like to reassure Felix Minette, the president of the Luxembourg Association of Medicine Students (ALEM). They will therefore be able to integrate the Faculties of Medicine of the Universities of Lorraine, Strasbourg and Paris-Cité.
Quite a while to turn around
According to the information that the ALEM holds from students, “they were warned very shortly before choosing their university,” added the president. Beyond the stress of having to find another university and accommodation, students may have the feeling of having worked hard for nothing. Those who are best classified can choose their university, “so it’s important emotional stress when you have prepared so much to integrate the Sorbonne”.
In Luxembourg, the 2nd and 3rd years of medicine can only accommodate 33 students. “About 34 students went to France for their 2nd year, fifteen in Belgium and three in Germany,” he explains.
Expected explanations
Asked about the reasons why she will not welcome Luxembourg students for the university year 2025/2026, the Parisian University has not been able to answer us. Alem is also waiting to know more about this choice and hopes that it only concerns the coming year.
Currently, UNI offers a bachelor in medicine and three diplomas in specialized studies in general medicine, neurology and medical oncology.
