Météosuisse: heat wave and heat record at altitude

The Institute announces that the (very relative) refreshment of this Thursday will be forgotten on Friday. An altitude record could be sprayed on Saturday.

In his blog published Thursday, Météosuisse does not announce any good news on the heat front. The Federal Office provides that temperatures will resolutely start up after “the relative refreshment of this Thursday”.

This would be due in particular to “the return of a very hot air plume from the Iberian Peninsula”. Switzerland will thus be locked up again in a “heat dome”. It is therefore necessary to expect a persistence of high temperatures “until early next week”.

“The installation of this heat dome will cause considerable warming to all altitudes,” continues Météosuisse. In particular, in the night from Friday to Saturday, a peak of heat at very high altitude seems to be taking shape with an isotherm of 0 ° C planned close to 5200 m ”. Never have the Payerne’s daily radiosonds measured this level of temperature, specifies the weather service.

“June 2025 is on the way to becoming the hottest June 2ᵉ months in Switzerland since the start of the measures in 1864,” he added.

“Forecast until Monday leaves no hope of cooling enough to change this trend. On the contrary, maximum and minimum temperatures will increase day by day and the heat wave will probably be reached on Saturday in most plain regions, ”completes Météosuisse.

Until when this wave will persist? The question remains unanswered.
