Microsoft ends Microsoft 365 updates on Windows 10 and forces the transition to Windows 11!

Officially, Windows 10 was to end on October 14, 2025. However, Microsoft discreetly announced on its Tech Community blog that Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) will continue to receive security updates until October 10, 2028.

This extension aimed to support users whose machines are not compatible with Windows 11, often due to hardware restrictions. Microsoft warns, however, that performance could be degraded. The features will remain globally stable, but without major novelties. However, not all information had been given by Microsoft.

This is an announcement that contradicts previous Windows announcements. Remember, a month ago, the company had reassured Windows 10 users by promising them that key software such as Microsoft 365 (which has Outlook, Word, or PowerPoint and Excel)

would continue to be updated for at least three years: “The updates will be broadcast via the usual update channels, until October 10, 2028.” Finally, the multi-cap tool will soon be updated, unless you download Windows 11.

An update of updates in several stages

From August 10, 2026, personal and family offers will not benefit from any novelty. If you use a device that is too old for Windows 11 or you just do not want to make the transition, you can still use the different tools, but you will no longer benefit from the latest advances and functions.
For the professional world and the companies that use Microsoft 365, there will be some additional information to take into account. For monthly subscriptions, updates will stop on October 13, 2026, while subscribers with a semi -annual formula will benefit from updates until January 12, 2027.

However, Microsoft specifies that only security fixes will continue to be provided until October 10, 2028, as announced last month. The company had clearly indicated that these would not be updates bringing new features.

As early as 2026, Windows 10 users will have to pay € 35 per year if they wish to continue to receive the security fixes. A measure that could affect more than 240 million non -compatible but still active devices in the world. This forced passage occurs while Windows 11 has just taken over, reaching 52 % market share, against 44.59 % for its predecessor.
