Migrate your passwords before the announced purge of Authenticator

Microsoft has planned a progressive dismantling to allow users to organize themselves, but the final due date is close and non -negotiable. Since June 2025, it is no longer possible to add or import new passwords into the Authenticator application. The already recorded identifiers, however, remain usable via the automatic filling function, but only for a limited period.

The month of July 2025 will mark a decisive step: the autofill service will be completely disabled. Most importantly, all stored payment information, such as bank card data, will be definitively deleted from devices on this date. Microsoft said that this payment information will not be automatically transferred to Edge and must be entered manually by the user in the browser.

The cleaver will fall in August 2025. From this date, all of the saved passwords will become inaccessible since the Microsoft Authenticator application. The passwords generated by the application but which have not been explicitly saved will also be lost forever. It is therefore imperative to act before this deadline so as not to lose access to your accounts. This decision, although potentially disruptive for some, aligns with a substantive trend in industry: the progressive abandonment of traditional passwords in favor of more secure methods.
