The Testache Consumer Protection Association, based on the result of an economic inspection survey, announces that the advertising brochures of the Medi-Market pharmacies and parapharmacies are the subject of several offenses.
According to Testachats, the promotions displayed in medi-market brochures are not calculated properly. Under the applicable legislation, price reductions must be calculated on the basis of the “reference price”, the lowest price practiced by the company during the 30 days preceding the discount, recalls the organization. However, according to testache, the brand does not calculate its reductions on the basis of this really practiced price, but on the basis of a theoretical price, with the aim of passing its promotions as much more important than what they really are.
Faced with this observation, the consumer protection organization had filed a complaint last May with the economic inspection. The latter has just confirmed that offenses have been noted concerning the rules related to the reference price, says Testachats. Other offenses have also been noted, for which a report was drawn up and transmitted to Medi-Market. Fines could also be imposed on these fraudulent practices, up to 4 % of the company’s total annual turnover.
“This practice is widely used among many online sales sites, especially on online pharmacies. It has been several years since we denounce it as being misleading, and it has just been officially confirmed. We hope that all the other sites concerned will also comply and properly inform consumers, ”underlines the Testachats spokesperson Julie Brother.
