The fourth edition of the Tour de France women sets off on Saturday July 26 from Vannes, in Morbihan. An unprecedented, longer, entirely hexagonal route. Five information to remember on this large feminine loop.
The Tour de France women returns home. After a departure from Rotterdam in 2024, linked to the organization of the Paris Olympic Games, the Grande Boucle finds this year a entirely national route.
Nine stages in total, one more than in previous editions, through fifteen departments and four regions. From Brittany to the Alps, the runners will join Châtel – Les Portes du Soleil, theater of the final arrival scheduled for Sunday August 3.
In 2026, the departure was already announced in Lausanne, Switzerland. The next step will start from Aigle, seat of the International Cycling Union. As for 2027, the United Kingdom is expected to welcome the big start.
The spirit of the Tour is also his advertising caravan. From the first stages, Breton spectators will see a festive convoy, although more modest than in male version: 14 vehicles and 7 brands on the first two stages.
As of Monday, the caravan will be complete with 50 vehicles, 22 partner brands and 150 caravan trees responsible for distributing gadgets and confectionery for five kilometers of procession.
The female peloton will pay tribute to a legend of tricolor cycling: Bernard Hinault. The badger, the last French winner of the male tour in 1985, launched his triumph that year during the contested prologue in Plumelec.
Forty years later, it was in this same Breton commune that the arrival of the first stage will be judged, with a passage three times on the famous Côte de Cadoudal.
Endowments are progressing for runners. The winner of the final general classification will receive 50,000 euros. An amount still far from the 500,000 euros paid to the male yellow jersey, but which is part of a dynamic of revaluation of female cycling.
According to David Lappartient, president of the International Cycling Union (UCI), “They can now live on bicycle”. The UCI also imposes a minimum gross annual salary of 38,000 euros for professionals. A stage victory brings in 4,000 euros, a distinctive jersey 3,000 euros. A total of 264,152 euros will be paid by the organizer, ASO.
The Tour de France women 2025 is presented as the fourth official edition. But the reality is more nuanced. As early as 1955, journalist Jean Leulliot had organized a first large female loop. Without tomorrow. Between 1984 and 1989, a three -week race was born again, the time Jeannie Longo, before sinking in other formats.
ASO relaunched the event in the form of a day with “La Race by le Tour” in 2014, then a real stage lap in 2022. Since then, popular and media success has been there. “This time, it’s the right one”says his director Marion Rousse.
