Hundreds of positions of school teachers do not yet have found takers at the end of the teacher competitions, despite a drop in the number of positions offered in the least attractive academies, according to data compiled on Wednesday by AFP. This year, 1046 positions remained vacant, or 9.9% of the 10,590 positions offered to primary education (maternal and elementary) competitions in public education (excluding Mayotte), according to a database compiled by AFP from the admission results published on the Cyclades de l’Éducation National Platform.
It was almost twice as in 2024, when 2040 positions had not been filled (18.8%). Following the methodology used last year by the ministry, the number of non -filled positions counted by AFP is however limited to 448 positions, or 4.6% of the positions offered. To be compared to the 11,18 non -filled positions (11.5%) in 2024.
Academies not requested
In its methodology, the ministry excludes the first internal competitions and exceptional internal competitions, and it does not count the positions not provided for the additional external competitions of the Academies of Versailles and Créteil, considering that they are already counted with those of ordinary competitions. The fall in the number of positions not provided this year is however in trompe-l’oeil because it stems from a simple mechanical effect.
As in previous years, almost all of them (1021 out of 1046, all competitions combined) is located in the little demanded academies of Versailles, Créteil and Guyana. However, this year, these three academies offered significantly fewer positions than in 2024 (-948, -21%). Conversely, 693 positions were added to other academies, more attractive. Result: despite an almost stable number of admitted in the three deficit academies (2464 this year, against 2424 in 2024), the number of unpreosed posts is automatically in a clear drop (1.021, against 2.009).

Questioned by AFP, the ministry indicated that the distribution of positions offered to competitions, down in deficit academies, replied “Recruitment realities and the needs of territories”.
In private contract under contract, 101 of the 1047 jobs to be filled (9.6%) did not find a lessee. An increased figure compared to the 84 posts (8%) not provided in 2024.
