A septuagenarian lost his life after being ejected from a heavy machinery on wooded grounds of Rivière-à-Claude, north of the Gaspésie on Monday evening.
It was around 9:45 p.m. that the authorities were called upon to intervene on the Rioux path, in the small municipality located about fifty kilometers east of Sainte-Anne-des-Monts.
A heavy mechanical shovel type vehicle overturned on steep terrain, falling a several meters and several barrels.
The man who was on board was ejected from the device. Upon arrival, he was transported to the hospital center.
“His death was unfortunately noted there,” said Frédéric Deshaies, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
An investigation was started by the police body to analyze the scene and determine the circumstances of the event. The Coroner office will also be involved in the survey, it is said.
For the moment, the authorities cannot advance on any contributory factors.
