moving funeral from the schoolgirl Marwa in Constantine

The farewells were commensurate with the shock wave caused by his atrocious death in Algeria. Thousands of people, of all ages, including some from several wilayas in the country, accompanied, on Monday at the end of the day, the young Marwa Boughachiche to her last home.

Aged only 12 years old, the teenager had been missing since May 22, day of her last school exam. But this Sunday, the stupor fell like a cleaver: the Constantine prosecution confirmed that the mutilated body found in Djebel El Ouahch, in the outskirts of the city of bridges, was that of Marwa.

Burial of the young Marwa in a strong emotion in Constantine

From 4 p.m., Sidi Mabrouk’s district was black in people and seemed frozen in time, depending on the images and videos broadcast on several platforms. The excitement, sadness and dismay read on all faces. Women in tears, afflicted young, grieving adults: all seemed to be carrying the same pain, the same misunderstanding.

How has a child, barely out of childhood innocence, could suffer such a fate?

From his grandfather’s house, the Marwa coffin has been briefly introduced for a last farewell with family, then brought to arm in the middle of an immense funeral procession, in a rare moment of communion and emotion. During images, relayed en masse on social networks.

The procession then took the direction of the Errahmane mosque, in the district of Zouaghi Slimane, where the funeral prayer was accomplished after that of Al-Asr. Then, direction the Zouaghi cemetery, where the little girl was buried, in the presence of the local authorities, including the Wali of Constantine, Abdelkhalek Sayouda. The magnitude of the shock was such that the authorities feared overflows. The security services were therefore mobilized in number, discreetly supervising the premises to prevent any incident, according to media.

A sentence of freezing simplicity

In a video, facing the authorities, Marwa’s father, visibly broken, but worthy, only made one request: “Bring me the one who deprived me of my daughter, I want to speak to her. »»

A sentence of freezing simplicity, taken up in chorus by the crowd, which claimed justice, even the capital punishment against the authors of this abject package. “We are here on behalf of the State,” said an officer, as if to emphasize that the case is national, and that everything will be done to find the authors of this heinous crime.

On social networks, many have claimed the application of the death penalty for the culprits. A recurring debate in Algeria with each drama of this kind. But the country has always observed a moratorium on executions since 1993, although capital punishment is maintained in the penal code.

Other voices, even more numerous, have pointed out the drifts on social networks. In sight: an influencer known by the pseudonym “opera”, established in Spain, accused of having disseminated false information about Marwa. He notably claimed that the teenager would have run away from a “boyfriend” in Ouargla. Many Internet users have called for his denunciation and legal proceedings, accusing him in particular of having hindered the investigation and violated the honor of an innocent child, only to make the “buzz”.

Since his disappearance on May 22, at the end of her last examination, Marwa had become the main concern of the entire city of Constantine and even many homes in Algeria. The security services had intensified research, while the family launched heartbreaking calls for help, even promising an important reward for anyone could find it.

But the discovery of a body in decomposition, in the forest of Djebel El Ouahch, ended up sealing the drama. The confirmation by DNA test of the identity of the victim ends up plunging all of Algeria into dismay.
