The cars affected by this measure of “stop drive” are all those equipped with risky airbags in Corsica and overseas as well as cars dating from before 2011 on metropolitan territory outside Corsica.
Airbags at risk are as well as those that caused accidents, with ammonium nitrate without drying. All brands are affected by these urgent reminders.
2.5 million cars targeted by a reminder
At the same time, the ministry requested the general recall without immobilization of all cars equipped with a risk airbag in mainland France (excluding Corsica), or 600,000 vehicles in addition.
These announcements bring to 2.5 million the number of vehicles targeted by a recall in France, including 1.7 million by a “stop drive”, an obligation to immobilize the car.
“This decision aims to send a clear and firm message to manufacturers, while encouraging the owners of vehicles concerned to have their vehicle checked as soon as possible,” the Ministry of Transport insisted in its press release.
18 dead and 25 injured
An accident occurred on June 11 in Reims during which a 36 -year -old woman was killed by the explosion of her airbag had precipitated this decision. His Citroën C3, built in 2014, was not affected by an immobilization until the airbag change. It only focused on the models built between 2008 and 2013. For models from 2014, a recall in concession by simple letter had been sent in May, without “stop drive”.
This is the second fatal accident in mainland France linked to these airbags which caused a total of 18 dead and 25 injured -including 16 deaths and 24 injured in the overseas -, according to the Ministry of Transport.
