The Swiss always love the train. Travelers rail traffic reached a new record in the second quarter of 2025 with an increase of 3.6%. On the other hand, rail traffic by goods fell 9.5%.

Travelers rail traffic has recorded 5.99 billion passengers-kilometers, a new quarterly record, said the information service for public transport (Litra) on Thursday. Compared to the first quarter of 2025, the increase reached 8.6%. And an increase of 3.6% over a year.

Glutters in strangulation and restrictions

This record highlights the sustainable attraction of public transport in Switzerland and shows that rail supply always meets the growing needs for the mobility of the population, rejoices Litra.

The transport of rail goods are still struggling to take off. With 2.76 billion tonnes-kilometers net, it fell 3.4% in one semester and 9.5% over one year. The bottlenecks and operating restrictions slow down transalpine traffic, explains Litra. (JZS/ATS)
