New record for the number of daily flights to EuroAirport

The EuroAirport of Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg recorded a new record for the number of daily flights on Friday. They were 34,471 passengers to use the international airport that day.

(Keystone-ATS) On the weekend, from Friday to Sunday, 97,633 passengers took off or landed in Basel-Mulhouse, 18.4% more than during the same weekend from last year, the EuroAirport said at the Keystone-ATS news agency on Monday.

In Zurich-Kloten, the main airport in Switzerland, there were some 220,000 passengers during the weekend, a spokesperson said. Just under 110,000 Saturday, and a little more Sunday, he said. The daily record, from 115,000, was not broken there. It dates from July 2019.

The weekend was nonetheless “intense”, the spokesman said: the airport announced at the beginning of the month that he was waiting for this weekend the peak in the summer.

Still to come to Geneva

In order to respond to this summer influx, the SWISSPORT stopover assistance company, which operates in the three main airports in Switzerland, has massively increased its workforce. In Geneva-Cointrin, the peak is probably not yet reached.

In June, his officials said they expected him to perform on Sundays in late July and early August, as well as August 1. During the summer holidays, Geneva Airport welcomes some 45,000 daily passengers on average.
