An NFL employee was seriously injured in a shooting on Monday, in a Manhattan building which welcomes the NFL offices and a few financial firms, confirmed Commissioner Roger Goodell in a message to the employees.
The shooter, Shane Tamura, would have targeted the offices of the NFL, but he would have taken the bad elevator according to the mayor of the city of New York, Eric Adams.
The investigators believe that Tamura was trying to access the NFL offices after shooting several people at the reception, but that he then took the bad elevator.
Four people, including a police officer off service from New York, were killed and another person finds himself in critical condition after being reached in the shooting at 345 Park Avenue.
Tamura was struggling with a history of mental illness and he had a letter of three pages saying that he had chronic traumatic encephalopathy and he asked that his brain be studied, police told ABC News on Tuesday.
This letter suggests that he had a complaint against the NFL. He played secondary football in California almost two decades ago.
“He seems to have blamed the NFL,” said Adams. The NFL chief offices were in this building and he took the bad elevator. »»
The note said that he was suffering from CTE, a degenerative mental illness linked to repeatedly shocks in the brain and which is linked in particular to contact sports such as football.
This letter also had several references with the NFL, depending on what a source said to the Associated Press.
The NFL then confirmed that an employee had been injured.
“One of our employees was seriously injured in this attack. He is currently in the hospital and in a stable condition, “said Goodell in the message, which was obtained by ESPN.
“NFL staff are at the hospital and support their family. We believe that all of our employees are safe and the building has almost been completely evacuated. »»
Goodell also said in this message that there was going to be “an increased presence of security” in the offices of the League “in the days and weeks to come”. He added that New York employees should work remotely on Tuesday or even take their day off if they wish.
“Each of you is a member of the NFL family. We will cross this test together. »»
Tamura would then have kidnapped her life.
The surveillance cameras show Tamura to leave a BMW just before 6:30 p.m. with an M4 rifle, then walk through the Plaza Public towards the building. He then started to shoot, said police commissioner Jessica Tisch. He killed a police officer responsible for the security of the company and then touched a woman who was trying to take shelter while he multiplied the bullets drawn in the entrance hall.
The man then went to the elevator, then he pulled a guard at a security office as well as another man in the hall, according to the commissioner.
“Our officer was shot in the entrance to the right as soon as he entered the building. He seemed to have missed the police officer first, then he turned around and discharged on him. »»
NFL employees have been warned to take refuge, according to Jeff Darlington de Espn. The NFL offices are on floors 5 to 8 of the 44 -storey building.
The man took the elevator until the 33rd floor, where the offices of the Rudin Management company are. He then killed a person on the floor, before taking his life out.
