Nova Lake BLLC: Intel is preparing a massive cache to counter the Ryzen X3D of AMD

AMD dominates the gaming scene with its Ryzen X3D chips and their V-Cache 3D technology. An intel response finally looms on the horizon.

According to leaks signed @haze2k1, the giant of Santa Clara works on Nova Lake, a new generation of desktop processors with a mysterious BLLC contraction of Big Last Line Cache. The goal is to fight AMD on your own field: that of performances at stake.

BLLC technology is not entirely unknown since it has already been tested in the server universe with the Clearwater Forest fleas. It took the form of a massive cover directly integrated under the active tiles of the processor. An approach which, copies the thermal and structural trick of AMD which moves this cache below the matrix instead of stacking it over to avoid the problems of thermal dissipation.

Nova Lake, two BLLC references

It is reported that two Nova Lake models with this BLLC technology would be in preparation. Both would be made up of 8 p-cores and 4 LP-E-Cores. A version will include 20 e-cores, while another aura 12 e-cores. The two should keep a 125 W TDP. These specs are targeting the performance area for players looking for an optimized FPS/Watt ratio.

It is interesting to recall that Intel had promised the opposite just a few months ago. In November 2024, the technical spokesman Florian Maislinger had sworn, face camera in Der8auer and Bens Hardware, that no desktop version with a V-Cache 3D equivalent was planned. The program seems to have changed, and the arrival of the LGA 1954 socket as well as chips like the Core Ultra 9 485K (52 cores, 150 W TDP) speaks volumes about the brand’s ambitions. At the other end of the range, an ultra 3 415K core (12 cores, 125 W) will complete the offer.
