The nuanced speeches, like that of François Bayrou in his podcast, generate less digital engagement than extremes.

The first steps of François Bayrou on YouTube are chance. The first episode of his series of videos, published on the platform for “Talking directly to the French”struggled to exceed 100,000 views. The second has four times less. All accompanied by particularly critical comments on the form of the “podcast”, deemed not very innovative.

But, beyond the too “government” staging, the false departure of François Bayrou raises a problem. On social networks, moderate and nuanced political discourses are struggling to echo in the face of more divided speeches often embodied by extremes. “You have to be entertaining or hateful, because that’s what people are looking for. Like all moderates, François Bayrou does not know how to do it ”estimates Philippe Moreau Chevrolet, expert in political communication.
