A British study published Tuesday July 22 estimates that the Pandemic of Covid-19 would have had an effect on our neurological health. Including in those who have never contracted it.
The COVID-19 pandemic would have had an impact on our mental health and our brain. According to the results of a British study published Tuesday July 22 in Nature communications And relayed by TF1, the people who lived this period of spring 2020 presented an accelerated brain aging of about five and a half months. And this was also the case for those who have never contracted the virus.
This transformation is therefore explained by the social environment linked to the pandemic. To calculate this data, scientists have analyzed cerebral MRIs from nearly 1,000 people who each have spent two brain scanners. A before, and one after the pandemic. They then led to an artificial intelligence program to analyze the age of the brain.
“Stress and isolation may have played a role”
Sociologically, the study observes several differences. Men and people from disadvantaged backgrounds are the most impacted by this phenomenon, recalls TF1.
“We cannot identify the exact mechanisms, but stress, isolation, disturbed routines and the reduction of physical and cognitive activity during confinements could have played a role”explains Doctor Ali-Reza Mohammadi-Nejad, one of the authors of this study.
