The most recent help is a subsidy of $ 100.7 million that the Legault government authorized in a decree of July 16 which was published on Wednesday.

“This support from the Government of Quebec in IBM, covering financial exercises 2025-2026 to 2029-2030, is granted so that the company can acquire equipment and make the development of the necessary spaces for advanced assembly and post-processing of Wafers (platelets) of 300 mm,” explained Jean-Pierre d’Auteuil, spokesperson for the Ministry of Economy, Journal.

“This $ 100.7 million envelope is granted to IBM as part of the measurement of the development of the Technum Québec innovation zone” announced in the last budget of the Minister of Finance, Eric Girard, said Mr. d’Auteuil. Details will be released in the coming weeks, he added.

This subsidy is one of the most important granted to a company by Quebec in recent years.

Open in 1972, the IBM factory in Bromont is one of the largest semiconductor assembly installations in North America. It employs 1,000 people and produces more than 100,000 microelectronic modules per week.

Ottawa Verse 210 m $

IBM also obtained the support of the federal government for its expansion in Bromont. In March, Ottawa awarded him $ 210 million in the form of a “partially and conditionally refundable contribution”.

Part of these funds will go to the Miqro Innovation collaboration center (C2MI), an organization co -founded by IBM, Teledyne Dalsa and the University of Sherbrooke.

Last year, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau went to Bromont to announce aid totaling $ 60 million in order to support two IBM projects, one concerning module packaging and the other, the increase in semiconductor assembly capacity.

“The semiconductors feed the whole world and we place Canada at the forefront of this opportunity,” said Mr. Trudeau.

The Legault government is committed to funding these two projects up to $ 38.9 million, in particular through a conditional subsidy (forgivable loan) of $ 30 million.

100% prices

The subsidy of $ 100.7 million from Quebec to IBM was made public the same day that US President Donald Trump said customs duties of 100% on imports of semiconductors.

However, these prices would not be imposed on companies that produce fleas in the United States. In April, IBM announced its intention to invest US $ 150 billion in the United States in the next five years, especially in the manufacturing sector.
