Parking in Brussels-Ville: which will change this July 1st (and after)

Among the measures that will enter into force on July 1, the paying parking period in residential areas will be reduced by two hours, stopping at 7:00 p.m. It will be maintained until 9:00 p.m. in areas of high activity (Pentagon, Louise, Heysel). From this date, the amounts of the parking fees and those of the local cards will be aligned with the regional rate.

The duration of free parking for parking meters will drop from 15 to 20 minutes from September to allow short -term stops.

From January 2026, the number of free visitors tickets for residents will be doubled, going from 10 to 20. Beyond, these tickets remain chargeable, and the maximum remains limited to 100 (free + paid).

To this set of measures is added a social advance: the “caregiver” card hitherto delivered in an unofficial manner now benefits from a clear official framework.

The alderman of mobility has finally specified that a dialogue would be initiated with the neighboring municipalities in order to better coordinate the rules in the neighboring municipal areas.

In the opposition, the Greens abstained, not without having pointed out that the price of “explodes” parking? From 9 million in 2021, via 14 million in 2022 to 35 million in 2024/2025 ?, “Stronging the full -whip of families, without effect or real ambition (the) on mobility,” said Benoît Hellings.

“The parking ticket is simply a tax,” said Bruno Bauwens (PTB). “The scan-car is actually a racket-car”. All this while taxes on the parking lots hardly increases. For the far left elected official, the inhabitants who pay the bill while the large private parking structures are spared taxes.

For Team Fouad Ahidar, Mourad Maimouni deplored the choice of majority to increase revenue via parking while more and more people no longer want to come to the center, according to him, because of these parking rates which he deems prohibitive.
