Robert Macintyre was four strokes ahead of his closest chase on Sunday, at the dawn of the final round of the BMW championship.
But when your closest prosecutor is Scottie Scheffler, no advance is comfortable enough for a final round. And Robert Macintyre taught him the hard way.
Scheffler doubled Macintyre to take a advance at a time at the end of the day, then he put on an approach from 81 feet to the 17th pennant to increase his advance with two strokes and spread Macintyre from the equation.
Scheffler finally delivered a card of 67 to conclude the tournament at least-15, which allowed him to win the BMW championship for the first time in his career. Scheffler scored six birds against three bugs in the final round.
This is a fifth victory for Scheffler this season and the 18th triumph of his career.
Macintyre will certainly have a bitter taste after this failed final round, where he gave a score of 73, to conclude at least-13. Macintyre had no miracle to succeed to win Sunday, but he was unable to limit the damage.
Macintyre committed two bugs in a row to start his day, which quickly increased the pressure behind him. Scheffler possibly took advantage of Macintyre’s troubles to settle in mind.
Maverick McNearly (66) concluded the third level tournament at least-11, ahead of Tommy Fleetwood (67) and Sam Burns (68).
Harry Hall has given a 70 final card to finish the tournament in sixth place. This excellent outing allowed him to qualify for the circuit championship, since he climbed from 45th place to the 26th.
Canadian Taylor Pendrith (69) took 15th in the tournament and he was not able to slip into the top-30 in the Fedex Cup classification.
Nick Taylor (75) and Corey Conners (80) will however be present for the last eliminatory tournament of the season.
