Picasso, Miró, Dali, Dora Maar: 100 masterpieces gathered in Narbonne for an unprecedented free exhibition

essential
The cross-intended exhibition, in the Consuls hall, the Saint-Martial chapel and at the Chapel of the Blue Penitents in Narbonne, evokes until August 31 the dialogues or the oppositions in the work of four immense creators. Dora Maar, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and Juan Miró, artists who have all seen works without really understanding that they met, loved, influenced, jealous or hated.

It is a real tour de force that the city culture teams have succeeded by organizing this exhibition whose content is, both, impressive of variety and pure market value. It is “thanks to the confidence that private collectors make us from Belgium, Germany or Holland,” says Jean-Christophe Hubert, the exhibition commissioner, “that we were able to bring together these works here. Part of Istanbul. Isabelle Vanderhoof, director of culture, wanted to focus on Spain and also wished that the woman was put in the way. With the spontaneity of Miró, the inventiveness of Picasso and the realistic technique of Dali, everything is gathered in Narbonne for the first time “.

Four major artists

Yves Penet, assistant to the culture of the city of Narbonne,, during the opening Wednesday, June 18, mentioned the axes of the exhibition of “these four giants for which we can, as they are so great, define an order, if only to name them. There is Spain, of course, but also the woman: the Muse Dora Maar, Miró the faithful, Dali the Submitter and Picasso. More than 100 pieces gathered in three places, the room of the consuls and the chapels of the blue and Saint-Martial penitents, look at each other, light up each other. Drawings by Dora Maar made while Picasso painted Guernica, a drawing of Dali preparatory to soft watches, the only series in the complete world of the eight ceramics on the bullfighting of Picasso, among others, are presented to the public from June 19 to August 31.

“Picasso is a communist, neither do me …”

Love, inspiration, influence, friendships or rivalry, feeling is one of the engines of art and creation. Gainsbourg was also inspired by a sentence from Dali speaking of Picasso to create his tube “I love you either”: “Picasso is Spanish, me too. Picasso is a genius, me too. Picasso is communist, me either …”.
Within three weeks of class that stay before the summer holidays, 400 students are already registered on the time slots that have been offered to them. We can think that they will be able to bring their parents. Four major artists, more than one hundred original works presented in three exhibition places: enough to see this exhibition which is completely free several times.

Organized in partnership with CMMN Kiddo, the DestinScés exhibition is visible until August 31, at the Palais-Museum of Archbishops, in the Consuls and Chapel of Penitents-Bleus, every day from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
