Pierre Hairyvre wins the by -election in Battle River – Crowfoot and returns to the House of Commons

The leader of the Conservative Party of Canada (PCC) Pierre Poilievre won the by -election in the constituency of Battle River – Crowfoot, in Alberta, thus ensuring his return to the House of Commons.

Around 3 a.m. (Montreal time) on Tuesday, Mr. Hairy reaped 80.4% of the vote, or 40,548 votes, after the counting of more than 99% of the ballot offices. Her closest pursuing, independent candidate Bonnie Critichley, held around 10% of the vote, or 5013 votes, according to Elections Canada.

Liberal candidate Darcy Spady positioned himself in third place with 4.3% of the vote, followed by the candidate of the new Democratic Party, Katherine Swampy (2.1%).

About 58% of voters in Battle River – Crowfoot moved to the polls to elect the conservative chief on Monday. This percentage does not, however, take into account voters who have registered on election day, specifies Elections Canada.

The ballots closed at 10:30 p.m. (Montreal time) on Monday.

“Getting to know the people of this region was the privilege of my life,” said Mr. Hairy during a rally after his victory in Camrose, Alberta.

“For the past ten years, progressive policies have led to an uncontrollable spiral of crime, immigration, housing, inflation costs,” he also mentioned, before attacking the Prime Minister: “under Mr. Carney and his 157 days in power, they only worsened”.

This ballot was necessary following the resignation of the former conservative deputy, Damien Kurek, to allow Mr. Poilievre to return to the House of Commons.

The conservative chief had lost his seat as a deputy in the district of Carleton in the hands of the Liberal Bruce Fanjoy during the federal elections in 2025.

Battle River – Crowfoot was the Alberta district where the Conservatives obtained their strongest lead last April, Damien Kurek who won around 82% of the votes.

Remembrance of candidates

This by -election in Alberta was marked by a record registration of 214 candidates, including 204 as independent.

Most of them were part of the group “Longest Bulletin Committee”, which militates in favor of a reform of the Canadian electoral system.

In response to this number of record registrations, Elections Canada has set up a “suitable” ballot for partial in Battle RiverCrowfoot, where voters had to write the name of the chosen candidate, instead of checking a box next to his name.

Elections Canada said that a vote was going to be counted, even in the event that the candidate’s name was bad spelling.

A national congress will take place at the end of next January, where the members of the PCC will meet to vote on the maintenance of Mr. Hairyvre at the head of the party.
