It is acted. The end of the copper network, which will sign the disappearance of ADSL in France, is scheduled for 2030. In the meantime, the work has already started and they will impact some French in a few weeks. If they do not take action, their internet connection may even disappear. Explanations.
The end of the ADSL in January
Since January 31, 2025, the Internet has been cut in 162 French municipalities. The people concerned had already seen this by going to this map proposed by Ariase which allows you to see the dates of the work in the different French villages.
In these villages, individuals can no longer subscribe from an internet offer in ADSL. Do not panic, however, as the specialized site indicates, the municipalities which are concerned should already benefit from fiber optics. Consequently, customers only have to contact their operator to make this change and benefit from a better quality connection.
And this is only a larger plan stage. Indeed, from January 27, 2026, no less than 829 municipalities were impacted by the end of the copper network, or 954,000 households. Then, on January 31, 2027, 2145 municipalities will enter the dance. Other operations are planned later, but they have not yet been communicated.
Difficulties in certain villages
As a reminder, the end of the Adsl network is far from being a long, quiet river in France. Certain municipalities which must manage this transition even even feel abandoned and lack terribly means. Dedicated, some elected officials therefore do door-to-door to ensure that their citizens will not lack internet connection in the coming weeks. To find out more about this, do not hesitate to reread our article dedicated here.
Likewise, the deployment of optical fiber is sometimes quite complicated. Moreover, in its report for the year 2023, the Association of Mediation of Electronic Communications (AMCE) noted a rise in conflicts linked to this network. They are now the first source of disputes between professionals and their customers: 42 % of referrals.
Finally, note that if your Internet debit is insufficient, state financial assistance ranging from 150 euros to 600 euros (according to your resources) can be requested in order to install a wireless or hertzian solution. The latter is managed by the National Agency for Territorial Cohesion (ANCT). If you want more information, it’s here. Did you know this upcoming disappearance of the ADSL? Tell us in the comments.
