At 39, Muireann McColgan became a mother for the first time. On October 7, 2023, his little daughter Aobh was born. But terrible news began her happiness: a few weeks after childbirth, the young mother discovered that she had a serious illness.
Pain in and back during pregnancy
During pregnancy already, Muireann McColgan suffered from back and breast pain, she had also identified a size. Worried, she made an appointment with her general practitioner in August 2023. At the end of the consultation, the diagnosis is reassuring: the future mother suffers from a mastitis. According to the Manuel Merckit is a painful inflammation of the breast, usually accompanied by an infection. Patients can have a fever, the red, painful, warm and/or swollen breast as well as, more rarely, a breast abscess. Nothing serious, if the diagnosis is the right one.
Four weeks later, a midwife does not have the same opinion. During a prenatal consultation, she advises Muireann McColgan to do other exams, including mammography. The patient makes an appointment but the spleen for a good cause: she gave birth the day before. Towards the end of October 2023, the young mother made a scanner who diagnose: the pains felt by Muireann McColgan were actually due to breast cancer. “”I was completely terrifiedshe explains to Sun. I was devastated. I spent two weeks being a mother without cancer.”
As indicated by Vidaldepending on the results of the exams, the doctor determines the stage of evolution of cancer which is said ”of evolving stage 0, I, IIA, IIB, IIIA, IIIB, IIIC or IV”, Going at least serious to the most dangerous.”When I was told Stade 2, I was relieved, because I knew that stadium 2 was healedpoursuit Muireann McColgan. After that, I was told: we’re going to cure you, the survival rate is 95 %”.
From stage 2 to 4, it presents metastatic breast cancer
This same month of October 2023, she also spent a scanner for her back pain. Doctors then discovered that his cancer had spread to bones and completely changed the diagnosis: the disease is in stage 4, that is to say metastatic breast cancer.
For the moment, the state of the mother is stable because the medication she takes acts on the disease. Since then, she has led two fights against breast cancer: hers and that on social networks, to educate mothers and raise funds for research.
