According to a publication of the Chamber of Employees, seven out of ten employees came to work at least one day, even by being sick.


In the past twelve months, around 70% of employees went to work at least one day by being sick. The median value being seven days. This was revealed this Monday the Chamber of Employees in a publication on presentism.
Women come to work more by being sick (75.9% of presentism) than men (65.3). They also have a higher number of presentism (8) than their male colleagues (6).
Differences depending on age, profession, contract …
Regarding age, young people are the most presented with a rate of 72.9% for 16-34 year olds and 73% for 35-44 year olds. But despite a lower rate of 59%, it is the 55 and over that have the most days of presentism, with 10 days, against between 7 and 8 for other age categories.
It is in particular the people exercising an intellectual, scientific, elementary profession, and the administrative employees who come the most work by being sick. On the other hand, drivers of installations and machines, and editors, and people of the elementary professions have a larger number of presentism.
People on permanent contracts, part -time, unable to telework or working in a public organization are those who have worked the most days by being sick. On the other hand, the rate of presenteeism is higher in people on fixed -term contracts or which can teleworking.
Measures reduce presentism
Burn-out, health problems, work-related depression and high mental burden can increase the fact of getting sick at work, the causes of presenteeism are varied, notes the CSL. Pressure at work, afraid of losing his job, a feeling of obligation, expectations of the company are all aspects likely to influence the decision to come to work by being sick.
“It is particularly essential that the culture of the company supports employees, does not stigmatize them in the event of sick leave, and clearly communicates to work on the importance of health,” emphasizes the Chamber of Employees. Managers and executives play a central role here, because respectful management guaranteeing psychological security can really help reduce the level of presentism ”.
