French President Emmanuel Macron decided, Thursday, July 24, 2025, that “France will recognize the state of Palestine”, during the UN General Assembly next September.
This is what emerges from a declaration of the French president on his official account on the X network on Thursday.
“True to his historical commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I decided that France will recognize the state of Palestine,” he wrote.
“I will make the solemn announcement to the United Nations General Assembly next September,” he said.
For Macron, “the urgency is today that the war stops in Gaza and the civilian population is rescued”.
“Peace is possible,” he said.
“It is immediately necessary to a cease-fire, the release of all hostages and massive humanitarian aid to the population of Gaza”, he added, calling for “guaranteeing the demilitarization of Hamas, securing and rebuilding Gaza”.
“Finally, we must build the state of Palestine, ensure its viability and allow by accepting its demilitarization and by fully recognizing Israel, he participates in the security of all in the Middle East,” explained the French president, reiterating the position of France that “there is no alternative”.
According to the tenant of the Elysée, “the French want peace in the Middle East” and it belongs to them with the Israelis, the Palestinians, and their European and international partners, “to demonstrate that it is possible”.
At the end of his text, the French president associated a letter addressed to the president of the Palestinian authority Mahmoud Abbas, in which he expressed his “determination to move forward”.
“In the light of the commitments that the president of the Palestinian authority has taken with me, I therefore wrote my determination to move forward. Confidence, clarity and commitment. We will win peace,” he wrote.
This decision by Macron, comes a few days before the UN conference in New York in New York on the two -state solution from July 28 to 30.
This conference will be co -chaired by France and Saudi Arabia.
It also intervenes in the aftermath of the Knesset’s decision to annex the occupied West Bank, while the War of Aggression led by the Israeli army against the Gaza Strip continues for the 22nd month, practically without respite, killing 59,586 dead and 143,498 wounded, most of whom are women and children, massive destruction of infrastructure and unprecedented famine.
