At the end of the deadline for depositing the lists set for Monday August 25 at noon, the Chancellery of State recorded 422 candidates for the Jura cantonal elections of 2025. For the first time, the citizens of the city of Moutier, who will join the canton of the Jura in 2026, will participate in this ballot, which gives this electoral expression a historical scope.
Renewal within government
Eighteen people seek a seat in the cantonal government. At the end of the deposit period, ten lists were registered including eighteen candidates including five women for the election of the five members of the government.
Two members of the investigative government, Nathalie Barthoulot (PSJ) and David Eray (PCSI) will not seek a third term in the government, thus paving the way for a partial renewal of its ranks.
Rosalie Beuret Siess (PSJ) and Stéphane Theurillat (the center) are on the list of their respective party. Martial Courtet is a third term to the government, on a list called “independent”.
Two provost nationals are candidates for the government, in a historic ballot, as the official attachment of the city of Moutier in the canton of the Jura in 2026 approaches.
Parliament: 404 applications spread over 25 lists
In view of the renewal of the Parliament, 25 lists have been filed, bringing together a total of 404 candidates, including 132 women. All the parties currently represented in the cantonal legislative have at least one list.
The CS-Pop and Left in motion presents a list in the districts of Delémont and Porrentruy. In the Franches-Montagnes and in Moutier, the CS-Pop and the Green-Es Jura and the young Green-Es Jura have common lists. Note that, for the districts of Delémont and Porrentruy, the Green-Es Jura and Jeunes Vert-Ees Jura appear alone.
PVL presents a list for Delémont and Porrentruy districts only. All other parties are present in the four districts.
In addition, ten deputies and substitutes in office give up requesting a new mandate. These are: Philippe Bassin, Deputy (Les Vert-Es), Ernest Gerber, Deputy (PLR), Nicolas Maître, deputy (PSJ), Michel Périat, deputy (PLR), Magali Rohner, deputy (Les Vert-Es Jura), Blaise Schüll, deputy (PCSI) Roberto Segalla, deputy (Les Vert-es Jura), Bernard Studer (Le Center Jura), Jean-François Lovis, substitute (PCSI), Vincent Schmitt, substitute (Les Vert-Es Jura).
Eight deputies and alternates still in office will not be able to represent themselves, having reached the statutory limit of three successive mandates. These are: Jean-Jacques Aubry, deputy (the jura center), Raphaël Ciocchi, deputy (PSJ), Yves Gigon, deputy (UDC), André Henzelin, deputy (PLR), Romain Schaer, deputy (UDC), Claude Schlüchter, deputy (PSJ), Claude Gerber, Raoul Jaeggi, substitute (PVL).
Despite the promotion campaign for women in politics conducted by the equality office, the female representation among the applications submitted remains limited to a third party, at the rate of 132 female candidates out of 404 for Parliament. This state of affairs recalls the always present issue of equality in Jura political life.
As a new district, the municipality of Moutier will constitute, for the next legislature, a distinct district for the election in Parliament, with seven deputies elected out of sixty. Twenty-six deputies will represent the Delémont district, eighteen that of Porrentruy, and nine that of the Franches-Montagnes.
