Private jets, giant yachts, haute couture dresses and private hotels in Venice: Jeff Bezos’ wedding pushes luxury limits

“If you can rent Venice for your wedding, you can pay more taxes”: the marriage of billionaire Jeff Bezos makes waves in Italy

The deployed logistics is close to excess: nearly 95 private jets, an armada of aquatic taxis and the 127 -meter “Koru” superyacht, estimated at $ 500 million, to transport the guests. The organization, provided by the same wedding planners as the Clooney, mobilizes more than 100 people, between security, technical coordination and stewardship.

Lauren Sánchez would bring up to 27 different outfits during the event, including a dress signed Oscar de la Renta, chosen with the help of Anna Wintour. As for its engagement ring, it would be a pink diamond of 20 to 30 carats, estimated between 3 and 5 million dollars.

To alleviate criticism, the couple paid a donation of one million euros to a university lagoon preservation project. But that was not enough to calm the tensions. Collectives of residents denounce a privatization of their city, saturated by luxury tourism. Banners “No Space For Bezos” have flourished on the quays, and some residents even threaten to block the canals with makeshift boats. Questioned by AFP, Tommaso Cacciari, 47, at the head of the No Space for Bezos movement, denounces “The use of Venice as if it were a private ballroom, rather than a real city with its inhabitants, its weaknesses and its problems“.

On the other hand, the tourism assistant in the city of Venice, Simone Venturini, explains that it only “One of the multiple events that the city welcomes every day“.
